semplice quanto prodigioso. <br \/>Immagina questo ponte medievale, vitale collegamento verso il Piano della Fiera tra i cui merli costruiti per difenderlo, fu ricavata una piccola edicola con l\u2019immagine della Vergine. <br \/>\u00c8 da quel piccolo segno di Fede \u00e8 fiorito il colosso che vedi oggi! <br \/>La storia di questo edificio sacro \u00e8 unita, in un abbraccio indissolubile a quella dei ponti, sono ben tre, che lo sorregge: La Basilica poggia su tre ponti!<br \/>La devozione dei lancianesi fu cos\u00ec travolgente che, l\u2019edicola inizi\u00f2 a crescere progressivamente, fino a occupare, dal 1443, il primo ponte in tutta la sua larghezza! <br \/>Pensa all&#8217;audacia di quegli uomini: nel 1520, per avere pi\u00f9 spazio, costruirono un secondo ponte affiancato al primo, coprendolo con imponenti volte per allargare ancora di pi\u00f9 la struttura. <br \/>Un terzo ponte fu aggiunto dopo il 1580. Cos\u00ec, nel corso dei secoli, da una piccola immagine della Vergine sul ponte nacque uno dei luoghi religiosi pi\u00f9 importanti di Lanciano.<\/p><p><strong>L\u2019Architettura della Basilica della Madonna del Ponte<\/strong><br \/>Per costruire la facciata neoclassica in pietra che si vede oggi, nel 1819 fu compiuto un sacrificio doloroso: la demolizione del grande portico davanti alla chiesa e dell&#8217;antica cattedrale dell&#8217;Annunziata che era proprio di fianco oggi segnalata da una diversa pavimentazione della Piazza. Immagina il brulicare di vita sotto il suo portico: notai che firmavano atti pubblici e mercanti che accorrevano per le nostre &#8216;rinomate fiere mentre i fedeli salivano l\u2019alta gradinata che conduceva al portale gotico dell\u2019Annunziata,<br \/>Ora alza lo sguardo verso il Campanile. Ammira l&#8217;opera magistrale del milanese Tommaso Gottardo che tra il 1610 e il 1621 realizz\u00f2, una sovrapposizione perfetta di ordini dorico, ionico e corinzio che svetta verso il cielo <br \/>Ma attenzione, questa non \u00e8 solo una torre campanaria! <br \/>Data la sua vicinanza al potere politico, divenne la nostra Torre Civica, un luogo dove la sacralit\u00e0 incontrava la vita terrena, ospitando l\u2019orologio pubblico e persino le prigioni nei piani sotto la piazza! <br \/>Entrando, l\u2019interno della Basilica \u00e8 da mozzare il fiato! <br \/>Nel 1758 l\u2019altare maggiore di marmo, realizzato a Napoli grazie alla maestria del maestro napoletano Crescenzo Trinchese arriv\u00f2 a Lanciano via mare perch\u00e9 era pi\u00f9 semplice che trasportarlo attraverso le strade di montagna.<br \/>Un decennio pi\u00f9 tardi venne spostato dalla sua posizione originaria, dove adesso vedi l\u2019altare del Santissimo Sacramento.<br \/>Sul fondo della chiesa, e tra il 1785 e il 1794, l\u2019interno esplose in un trionfo di bellezza, furono realizzate le decorazioni in stucco e le grandiose colonne in scagliola, opera di Alessandro Terzani di Como. <br \/>Il genio di Giacinto Diano, tra i migliori artisti napoletani, affresc\u00f2 i medaglioni delle volte e la cupola, oggi scomparsa, aggiungendo le lunette e pale d&#8217;altare riempiono il tempio di luce divina. <br \/>Ma la storia non si ferma! Nel 1870, grazie al disegno dell&#8217;ingegner Filippo Sargiacomo, fu realizzato questo splendido pavimento marmoreo che ora calpesti.<br \/>Oggi, le celebrazioni per la Madonna del Ponte sono l&#8217;anima di Lanciano. <br \/>Ogni anno, il 14, 15 e 16 settembre, la citt\u00e0 esplode di gioia per celebrare l&#8217;incoronazione della statua avvenuta nel 1833. <br \/>Sull\u2019altare maggiore si pu\u00f2 vedere ancora la statua quattrocentesca della Vergine col Bambino, sulle cui teste stanno le due corone rilucenti d\u2019oro massiccio, dono del Capitolo Vaticano. <br \/>Senti la forza di queste mura? Non \u00e8 solo una cattedrale&#8230; \u00e8 un ponte gettato tra la terra e il cielo, costruito sulla roccia e sulla fede di un intero
